The DigitaltMuseum Block

You can use the DigitaltMuseum block to either hand pick single objects and place them in a grid, or to construct a self updating dynamic search. You can also combine the two to mix individual objects with one or more searches.

  • The animation shows an example of how you can pick objects and place them in a grid. It first shows a general search, which is filtered down to object type folder within the collection. It then shows how you can reorder the objects and change their size. Finally it shows how you can limit the number of objects to load initially and change the label of the button.

Picking single objects and adding them to a grid

You can pick and combine any kind of objects and present them as a grid using the DigitaltMuseum block. You can do so by searching. The search works the same way as in DigitaltMuseum. You can search for anything; a word, an ID or a string of words. To add an object to the grid, click on the object in the search result. Once you are done, close the Finder by clicking "X".

Advanced Search and Filters
If your search returns too many results or you would like to narrow down the results, you can apply filters. By clicking "Advanced search" you will be presented with the two most commonly used filters - limit to only search within your own collection and limit the search to a certain object type. Keep in mind that you can apply any other filter by simply writing the syntax in the search field. Please refer to the description and examples by clicking the link below.

Organizing and presenting the objects in the grid

Once you have inserted the objects, you can rearrange them and set their sizes individually. On the left hand side, below your list of inserted objects, you will find a section where you can specify further characteristics. The "max number" is used to determine how many objects you would like to show on initial load (1 - 100). Once the user clicks on the button, it will load the remaining objects you picked. You can also change the text of the button by typing in a different label. If you would like the button to link to an external URL, for instance a predefined search in DigitaltMuseum or an external website, you simply paste in the URL in the field labeled "URL". This will make the button link to the url instead of expanding the search within the page/article.

  • The animation shows an example of how you can use the DigitaltMuseum block to display a search showing the 5 latest objects of the collection.

Creating a search

As an alternative or an addition to picking and adding single objects, you can construct and insert a pre-defined search. Such a search is very useful if you want a section in you page or article that shows a dynamic selection limited to a certain amount of objects. For instance, this can be used to show the an updated grid of the latest objects from a collection matching certain criteria.

The example above shows how to recreate the "Latest objects in the collection" limited to five objects and a button linking to the entire collection.

Start by adding a DigitaltMuseum block. Click "Add a search". A list element will appear. This is an empty search. To modify it, click the list element. In the search criteria section, you may type any search term and combine it with any filter using the syntax. Finally, scroll down to the section where you can specify the max number of objects to show and type in five. Change the label of the button and type in the URL you wish to link to.

Combining a search and hand picked objects

You can combine grids of a pre-defined search and hand picked objects. First, add a DigitaltMuseum block. To add a search, click "Add search". Construct the search. In the example above we limit the search to the type folder within our own collection. Finally we set the number of objects (rows) to be returned to 2. This will limit the search to always return two hits. Next we start picking single objects by clicking "Find object" and selecting the objects we want to add. In the example above we add 8 objects. Finally, we would like to limit the totalt number of objects to be shown on initial load to 6. Do so by typing in 6 in the "Max number" input field.

This will result in the block initially returning two hits from the search and four of the 8 hand picked objects. Once the user clicks the "Show more" button, the remaining 4 hand picked objects are loaded.
